With Dumfries & Galloway reckoned to be one of the best places in Britain to live, the newspapers which serve the area have a very high standard to maintain. Scottish and Universal Newspapers has been working with the people of the area for over 160 years and has prospered side by side with the community.
The Galloway News takes an active role in the community and is not only highly trusted by our loyal readers, but also has a substantial amount of influence throughout the region. Its sister Paper, the Galloway News, was founded in 1858. It is the Paper for the Stewartry area where it dominates its rivals. However, our dedicated staff are not complacent and continually develop the title to attract more readers. In fact, in 2003, the Paper was relaunched with new masthead and in-paper design. This followed months of market research in and around Castle Douglas and the wider Stewartry area. The Dumfries & Galloway Standard was also awarded Local Newspaper of the Year award at the Drum Awards 2003.
Our commitment to the region is further emphasised with four free newspapers-Dumfries & Galloway Today, and three community titles: the Georgetown, Moffat and Langholm Community News. Dumfries & Galloway Today is distributed across the region to 17,000 homes, from Annan in the east to Stranraer in the west. The Georgetown Community News-a monthly publication dedicated to local community news-is distributed to the largest housing estate in Europe-over 3,500 homes. The Moffat Community News and Langholm Community News are quarterly publications covering two of the larger towns within the Standards circulation area.
This impressive array of titles ensures that Dumfries & Galloway is well covered by Scottish and Universal Newspapers, which provides a service which is second to none.
